I was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. My family lived in a cabin up the Poudre Canyon. My mom walked down the path with me in a bucket to the river to get water. I am the oldest of 5 children. My mother suffered grand mall seizures when I was 8. She passed away from brain cancer when I was 13. My four siblings and I were placed in foster care for several months. After my mother’s death we were rejoined with my dad, a neighbor stepped up to help with we children. She later became my stepmother. I attended school at Sunset, then Reminton, and I graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1966. As a teenager I worked various jobs to help pay my way. I helped as a counselor at Salvation Army summer camps. After graduation I went to San Francisco to train to be a Salvation Army officer/preacher for one year and then on to an assignment in Billings Montana. From there I became a nanny. I married Dick Bolton in October of 1972. He brought two children to the marriage, together we bore two more. I moved back to Colorado in 1974. We lived in Holyoke where Dick worked in the feed lot, then on to Sterling, Greeley, and finally to Limon in 1992. I received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Northern Colorado. I went to work in Limon for Centennial Mental Health as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Later I opened my own practice called “Turning Point” and met with clients at night and worked at Job Services during the day. I retired after working for the State of Colorado at age 72.
