Donna Metcalf
Natives of Lincoln County, Rich and I grew up on farms and ranches south of Limon and Hugo. We grew to love and appreciate the vast prairie sunrises, sunsets, and the rural hospitality that abounds. Neighbors and friends helping one another for the common good was and continues to be a way of life. Though we grew up only 25 miles apart we didn’t know each other until a shared interest in Rodeo brought us together. We dated after high school and were married in 1977. Soon we would own our own small farm/ranch and found ourselves raising 3 children, cattle, wheat and feed grains. We loved sharing our passion for rodeo and helped with local youth activities that our kids were involved in.
Entrepreneurs at heart we added side enterprises along the way to supplement our income. Among those were handcrafted wooden furniture and country crafts. With a college degree in Fashion Merchandising, I loved the business side of things and thoroughly enjoyed promoting Art, Craft, Vendor, and Antique Markets. I have always loved the process of identifying a customer’s needs and wants and seeking to find solutions. Rich worked a few side jobs through the years including a time with the Division of Wildlife, and Limon Correctional Facility. I worked part time for ACE Hardware after our kids were in school.
The opportunity presented itself to open an Antique and Gift store with Rich’s parents in the early 1990s. It grew to include clothing and stock trailer sales.
The time came to sell our beloved farm and embark on a new adventure in 1997. Opening Pronghorn Country ACE Hardware and Lumber would lead us to a fulfilling career for the next 20 years. Health issues brought that adventure to a close and in 2018 we struck out on the new territory of building a housing development. An avid HGTV fan the venture was a dream come true for me. I loved designing and decorating homes. Covid 19 supply chain issues and more health issues for Rich, brought this to a close.
In March of 2020 I began schooling for a Real Estate License, also one of my lifelong dreams. In spite of multiple Covid related delays I became a licensed associate broker in August of 2020. Real Estate is without a doubt the most fun career I’ve ever had. I love helping sellers achieve their goals and buyers reach their dreams of first-time home ownership, upsizing or downsizing. Buying, selling, and investing in real-estate, remodeling our own homes as well as multiple years in the home improvement industry gives us a unique set of skills, Rich is knowledgeable and full of common sense. While operating ACE Hardware we were able to get to know almost everyone in the community and are aware of an infinite number of resources. Our passion for helping people makes us a great team. Please keep us in mind if you, a friend or a family member is buying or selling property.
In our free time we enjoy traveling, spending time with our family which includes our three grown children, Misty, Crystal, and Seth and their families. We are blessed to have all five grandbuddies nearby. Always involved in church and community activities, doing whatever we can to spread our love and passion for Lincoln County, it was a natural fit when we happened onto the “Faces of” program. We hope you love it as much as we love bringing it to you.
